Carmina Burana
Live recording of Carl Orff’s world-famous musical masterpiece Carmina Burana, performed by the more than 100-strong National Opera and Ballet of Ukraine.
This concert was recorded on 16 April 2023 at the Nieuwe Luxor theatre in Rotterdam. It was a historic performance: for the first time since the Russian invasion, a state ensemble from Ukraine came to Western Europe for a series of performances. This version of CARMINA BURANA was created especially for and with residents of Odessa. This cosmopolitan city with its eventful history has the same monumental and timeless power as Orff’s overwhelming, sometimes even totalitarian-sounding music.
