Blue Velvet
In 1986, David Lynch shocked the world with this story about the dark side of the seemingly bright and beautiful American town of Lumberton. More than thirty years later, Lynch’s classic is still as mysterious and perverse as ever. Blue Velvet is considered Lynch's masterpiece by many critics. A perfect combination of surreal mystery and traditional thriller.
Lumberton is one of those neat small towns where American family values are still honoured. The idyll gets disturbed when teenager Jeffrey Beaumont finds a cut-off ear in the grass and starts to investigate. This leads him to a debauched underworld, populated by psychopathic drug dealers, masochistic nightclub singers and perverted crooners.
BLUE VELVET is considered Lynch’s masterpiece by many critics. Dennis Hopper is unforgettable as the sadistic maniac Frank Booth, and in no other film (or it should be MULHOLLAND DRIVE) Lynch managed to achieve such a perfect combination of surreal mystery and traditional thriller.
