One Cut Of The Dead - English subtitled
Funny Japanese low-budget cult hit about the production of a cheap zombie film that takes a curious turn when a real zombie suddenly turns up.
Is there anything left to add to the zombie genre? Shin'ichirô Ueda answers this question with a resounding ‘yes’ with this wildly inventive film he shot with students from Tokyo’s film school. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD starts as a ‘making of’ a zombie film in an empty factory. Although there is virtually no budget, the perfectionist director is nonetheless determined to shoot his film in one long, epic take. Cast and crew are pushed to their limits and the shooting process goes from bad to worse when a real zombie suddenly appears and attacks the actors. And that’s just the first surprise director Ueda has in store for us.
ONE CUT OF THE DEAD is a witty ode to low-budget films, and shows how much love, work and planning go into making a B movie. The film was a hit on the international festival circuit.
Before the screening there will be an introduction by film students of United World College Maastricht. Afterwards there will be a discussion led by Ajay Hirani, teacher of the film class.
