KIVA – The Call of the Wisdom Keepers (+ Q&A)
Documentary on the KIVA ceremony, in which indigenous wisdom keepers gather around a sacred fire and express their love through prayers, ancient rituals, songs and dance.
In 1968, medicine man Raymundo Tigre Perez had a vision. He saw indigenous wisdom keepers from all over the world united in a circular pit – with a fire at its heart – performing a ceremony. A spiritual ceremony for the earth, for peace and well-being of all living beings. Only later did he discover that this was a KIVA, an ancient ceremony used by the Anasazi (a prehistoric Native American culture) 3,000 years ago.
Perez pursued his vision and invited hundreds of wisdom keepers to a ceremony. These KIVA ceremonies have been taking place all over the world ever since. This documentary offers a unique view of these ceremonies and invites the viewer to reflect on how we can heal our relationship with the planet. The wisdom keepers show the way: they have never lost touch with nature and their ancient wisdom can lead us to a more connected and sustainable way of life.
