The disabled Lis is accompanied on her journey to Tar by Fando, who pushes her in a wagon or carries her in his arms. Along the way, they run into some surreal situations and meet people and merchants who have just returned from Tar. The city does not seem so far away, yet Fando and Lis will remain on the road forever.

FANDO Y LIS is the feature debut of Alejandro Jodorowsky, based on a screenplay by Fernando Arrabal. Both Jodorowsky and Arrabal were among the founders of the Mouvement Panique (Panic Movement), an artists’ collective named after the god Pan that sought to use violent and disruptive performance art to release destructive energy to create space for peace and beauty. The film immediately established Jodorowsky’s reputation as a blasphemous, provocative filmmaker. During its premiere in Mexico, Jodorowsky had to flee because the audience wanted to lynch him. He managed to escape and two years later delivered EL TOPO, the film considered by many to be his masterpiece.
