Buladó - English subtitled
Buladó is a magical-realistic and loving story about the tensions between spirituality and rationality within a small family in Band'abou, Curaçao.
Eleven-year-old Kenza lives with her father Ouira and grandfather Weljo at a junkyard in Curaçao. The two men are opposites: Ouira is a resolute, rational policeman while Weljo identifies with the native inhabitants and spirituality of the island. While the relationship between Ouira and Weljo becomes increasingly difficult, the headstrong Kenza resolutely searches for her own path between the two extremes.
Director Eché Janga (HELIUM) based his second feature film partly on a story of the slave era passed down orally in his own family. The film opened the Dutch Film Festival in 2020.
