Colombia, on the banks of Magdalena Medio, 2002. José returns to his home deep in the jungle after a long fishing night to discover that paramilitary forces killed his two sons, Dionisio and Rafael, and threw their bodies into the river. José begins a lonely journey to retrieve their bodies and provide a proper burial for his boys, preventing their tormented souls from being stuck in this world. Aboard his canoe, José discovers the magic of a country torn in pieces.
Colombian-Belgian director Gille is an award-winning documentary maker, whose first feature film paints a beautiful picture of hope and humanity. In doing so, he respectfully directs his untrained actors to remain completely authentic in their roles. (av)
