Pina Bausch (1940-2009) revolutionised modern dance with her choreographies. But what remains of her work today? Two spectacular dance projects show how young dancers from all over the world are rediscovering Pina’s choreography: The Semperoper Ballet Company in Dresden is rehearsing Pina’s dance opera IPHIGENIA IN TAURIS, and dancers from all over Africa are giving a new twist to Pina’s ballet LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS at the École des Sables in Senegal. A fascinating metamorphosis: while the dancers from street dance, classical ballet, traditional and modern African dance transform Pina’s work, her choreography transforms the dancers. Pina is very much alive.
