Gabriel and the Mountain - English subtitled
Before entering a prestigious American university, Gabriel decides to travel the world for one year, his backpack full of dreams.
After ten months on the road, he arrives in Kenya where he is joined by his girlfriend. But discovering Africa as a tourist is not enough for Gabriel. He decides to go deeper, and travels to Mount Mulanje in Malawi, his final destination.
Brazilian filmmaker Fellipe Barbosa filmed the last year of his school friend Gabriel Buchmann. Apart from its fatal ending, Barbosa did not know much about the journey. Barbosa portrays this journey – and what it meant for Gabriel – by following in his footsteps with the camera, resulting in this road movie, biopic and reconstruction of Gabriel’s last months. In this way, this film not only reflects on the loss of a friend, but on the cursoriness of backpack tourism.
