The Day I Lost My Shadow (+ short film: Before I Forget)
When the war breaks out, pharmacist Sana attempts to continue daily life in Damascus as normal despite power cuts, water rations and food shortages.
In her attempt to secure a gas canister she unintentionally embarks on an uncertain adventure, becoming cut off from her home and child together with three strangers. While she is trying to find her way home from the dangerous no man’s land, she discovers how the experience of war causes a change in some people that is barely visible: they lose their shadow.
The screening of The Day I Lost My Shadow will be preceded by the short film Before I Forget (Razan Hassan, Netherlands 2018, 11 min.): Memories fade, transform, disappear. If only you could activate the write protection, like with old cassette tapes. Filmmaker Razan Hassan brought one of those tapes with her from Syria, the only sound recording from her childhood. In the Netherlands she tries to unlock this carefully kept piece of her identity.
