The Dark Horse - open air screening Plein 1992
THE DARK HORSE is an inspiring true story based on the life of a charismatic, brilliant but little-known New Zealand Hero and chess champion - Genesis Potini, aka Gen. Winner of the Audience Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2015.
Genesis, a one-time speed-chess champion, is from the Maori community and has just completed treatment for bipolar disorder. He must overcome gang pressure and violence as well as prejudice when he decides to take the chess club made up of street kids he coaches to a national championship.
THE DARK HORSE is buoyed by great acting from Cliff Curtis, familiar from WHALE RIDER (2002) and ONCE WERE WARRIORS (1994)
