Confronting, urgent drama about a Ukrainian surgeon who finds himself in a Russian torture bunker and then returns to his former life traumatized.
Like in his previous film ATLANTIS, Ukrainian director Valentin Vasyanovych once again tells a story of trauma in the immediate aftermath of war. In REFLECTION, Vasyanovych outlines the beginning of the war between Ukraine and Russia in 2014 and depicts the horrors that take place in hidden Russian prisons.
After Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy is captured by Russian forces in the conflict zone in eastern Ukraine, he witnesses horrific scenes of violence, humiliation, and indifference to human life during his captivity. When released, he returns to his apartment and seeks a purpose in life again by strengthening ties with his daughter and ex-wife. Serhiy is experiencing what it feels like to be a human being again and learns to help his daughter, who desperately needs him.
The escalation of the war in Ukraine has now caught up with the film. That is why distributor Cherry Pickers has decided to release the film earlier than planned. All proceeds from the film will go to the Ukrainian filmmakers.
