Piggy
Psychological horror film about a bullied teenager who faces a moral dilemma when her tormentors are kidnapped.
It is summer in Extremadura, southern Spain. Plus-size teenager Sara dreams of being someone else. She works in her parents’ butcher shop against her will and is relentlessly bullied by a group of cool and beautiful girls who call her Piggy. One summer day at the community pool, the girls take the bullying too far, nearly drowning Sara. When Sara is on her way home after this horrific experience, she watches a stranger attack and violently kidnap her bullies. As the town searches for the girls, Sara keeps her mouth shut because the abduction is also somewhat of a relief. However, the abduction turns out to be the kick-off for more gruesome atrocities, and Sara faces a moral dilemma. Will she alert the police, or will she enjoy a quiet summer?
PIGGY is a story about justice, redemption, and the vulnerability of teenagers, with a solid nod to the horror classic CARRIE. The film was shot in Academy screen format (1.37: 1), which reinforces the sense that Sara is locked in her own world.
