A stranger than fiction true story set during the Second World War, OPERATION MINCEMEAT depicts the deception effort by the Allies to keep the invasion of Italy hidden. In 1943, as the Allies are determined to launch an all-out assault on Fortress Europe but face a seemingly impossible challenge, two brilliant intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley conceive an inspired although improbable disinformation plan that was dubbed Operation Mincemeat.

They would trick the Nazis into thinking that Allied forces were planning to attack southern Europe by way of Greece rather than Sicily. Their plan was to disguise the body of a recently deceased man, equipping it with misleading papers, then drop it off the coast of Spain where Nazi spies would take the bait.

Adapted from Ben Macintyre’s book of the same name, director John Madden (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL) delivers an incredible true story of Second World War espionage.
