Throwing mud. Liam and Noel Gallagher are both as good at it as they are at making music. The brothers fought verbally and physically for years. In 2009, after a brawl backstage, Noel called it quits and one of the greatest bands in British pop history, which scored massive hits with songs like Don’t Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall, came to an abrupt end. Music fans have dreamt of an Oasis reunion ever since. This summer it finally happens: on Friday 4 July, Oasis will kick off a new world tour in Cardiff. For now, no performances are planned in the Netherlands and to ease the pain, Lumière is screening the 2016 documentary Oasis: Supersonic.

The documentary features brothers Liam and Noel themselves talking about their childhood, the start of their music careers and their eventual status as international rock stars. And of course, there is a lot of music, from the period when Oasis were still on the way up, and no one could yet estimate how big the band’s impact would eventually be.

Mat Whirecross, United Kingdom, 2016, 122 min. English spoken, Dutch subtitles.
