Mars Express - English subtitled
Energetic, hard-boiled sci-fi animation thriller in which a private detective and her android partner travel to Mars to unravel a murder case.
It's 2200, and private detective Aline is hired to track down a hacker, together with partner Carlos Rivera: an android ‘backup’ for her friend who died five years ago. Their investigation spans Earth and Mars, firefights and heists. At every turn the case peels back a new layer of intrigue, corruption and the human race’s uneasy relationship with their robot co-habitants.
MARS EXPRESS is a stylish cyberpunk thriller with a voice cast that includes top French actors such as Léa Drucker and Mathieu Amalric. Besides offering adrenaline and humour, the film raises some intriguing philosophical questions surrounding the development of artificial intelligence. These questions are not necessarily new, think of Philip K. Dick’s work, but the fresh form in which they are posed suggests new answers. The film premiered in Cannes and will open Anima, the international animation film festival in Brussels.
