Als De Kraanvogels Overvliegen (The Cranes Are Flying)
More info
In January, Lumière will screen two classics by Georgian-Russian director Mikhail Kalatozov (1903-1973).
Born in Tiflis (the current Georgian capital Tbilisi), Kalatozov grew up in a noble family. During World War II, he directed several propaganda films and worked as a cultural attaché for the Soviet Embassy in the United States. After World War II, Nikita Khrushchev, the new leader of the Soviet Union, initiated reforms in Russian society. It became possible to portray World War II – the theme of Soviet cinema – as an individual rather than a collective experience. It is in this period that Kalatozov made his best films, including that one unrelenting classic: THE CRANES ARE FLYING.
Tickets will be reserved for 15 minutes while the order is in your cart.
