What do you do when your son no longer wants to live? In WITTE FLITS, Rick has been struggling with severe psychological problems for over twenty years. After an intensive, years-long process, he receives permission for euthanasia on the grounds of unbearable and hopeless suffering. His parents Aagje and Toon – played by top Dutch actors Renée Soutendijk and Raymond Thiry – are now faced with the task of letting go of him for good. Is their love strong enough to support Rick in his deep desire for a dignified end?
Director Laura Hermanides was deeply moved by the story of two parents who had lovingly supported their son in his struggle for euthanasia. Years of contact with these parents and others closely involved eventually led to her debut film WITTE FLITS.
