Land Van Johan
In his first feature film in almost ten years, Eddy Terstall (Simon, Rent A Friend, Vox Populi) takes us to Amsterdam in 1969 and shows us how the Netherlands became the country it is today.
In Land Van Johan, we follow three families from Limburg, the Veluwe, and Morocco. Their lives intertwine in the bustling Amsterdam of the 1960s, home to Ajax football club and at that time the epicentre of the hippie movement in the Netherlands. During the student riots in 1969, Onno and Gijs fall head over heels for the dreamy Sonja. She effortlessly wraps the men around her finger. Under the influence of drugs, they have profound conversations about social change, artistic expression, and personal growth. However, as the city becomes increasingly swept up in the flower power movement, free love proves to be pretty complicated.
