Seventeen-year-old Ainara is a pupil at a Catholic boarding school and finds herself at a crucial crossroads in her life. Whilst her family expects her to continue education like any other student, she shocks them with her consideration of becoming a nun within a cloistered convent community.

Ainara’s choice causes great tension within her family, which was already not without its worries. Her staunchly atheist aunt, in particular, is shocked and openly questions Ainara’s decision. Does Ainara feel a true calling to faith, or is it an escape? What follows is an emotional conflict in which different worldviews collide: faith versus rationality, personal freedom versus family expectations.

Supported by understated cinematography and subtle music, Los Domingos prompts the viewer to reflect on conviction, loss and the reasons behind life-changing choices. (rs)
