Treat Her Like A Lady
A hopeful Dutch drama about a mother who – after being accused of fraud – must do everything in her power to prevent her children from being taken into care.
Sandra lives with her partner and her two daughters in a small flat in Amsterdam. Thanks to cleaning jobs, social benefits and exchange deals with neighbours, she just about manages to make ends meet. During a heatwave, Sandra discovers her partner is having an affair and the unpaid bills keep piling up. And then she is also accused of fraud. But the ever-optimistic Sandra refuses to let it get her down, and she is determined to give her children a wonderful summer.
Treat Her Like A Lady offers sharp criticism of a failing social security system, but above all radiates hope, energy and lust for life. Lead actress Nienke Plas shines as the charismatic Sandra, a character who seems to have stepped straight out of a Pedro Almodóvar film.
Please note that this film is in Dutch, without subtitles.
