There is not much to do in the dull Swedish provincial town of Åmål. Gloomy teenager Agnes has only lived there for a short time and does not belong. She is secretly in love with Elin, the most popular girl at school, but has nowhere to turn with her feelings. Agnes’ world collapses when Elin humiliates her at her sixteenth birthday party. But Elin, who becomes fascinated by Agnes’ courage, regrets this afterwards. Slowly, the two grow closer and closer.
