Daguerréotypes seeks out the people behind the shopkeepers. They bake bread; sell accordions, hair dye, socks and large white underpants; they curl hair or teach people to drive. In front of the camera of their famous neighbour, the entrepreneurs of Rue Daguerre reveal themselves. They talk about their lives, loves and dreams, about their youth and their profession. These testimonies and Varda's warm observations grow into a beautiful and melancholic portrait of a village within a city in the early 1970s.
