Compilation programme featuring two short films; the first by and the second featuring Leos Carax (Holy Motors, Annette).
The films:
C'est Pas Moi
Leos Carax, France, 2024, 41 min., French, English spoken, English subtitles. Cast: Leos Carax, Denis Lavant, Nastya Golubeva Carax.
Commissioned by the Centre Pompidou, celebrated French filmmaker Leos Carax created this short film in which he uses images to answer the question ‘Where are you, Leos Carax?’
The result is a free-style self-portrait, full of winks and references to his eclectic body of work. At the same time, it serves as an affectionate tribute to Jean-Luc Godard and David Bowie, as well as an exploration of the power and political impact of images. This compelling collage of text and film fragments is Carax as we like to see him: provocative, poetic and philosophical.
Allégorie Citadine
JR & Alice Rohrwacher, France, 2024, 21 min., French spoken, English subtitles. Cast: Naïm El Kaldaoui, Lyna Khoudri, Leos Carax.
Short film by JR (Visages Villages) and Alice Rohrwacher (Lazzaro Felice), inspired by Plato’s Allegory Of The Cave.
A dancer takes her seven-year-old son to an audition for a play based on the allegory of the cave. But when the audition begins, he runs away and ventures into the streets of Paris, setting off on an unexpected adventure.
JR and Alice Rohrwacher imaginatively blend film and philosophy, with a notable role for Leos Carax. Allégorie Citadine illustrates how images – whether shadows or tangible objects – can either distort or reveal the truth. The film builds on a project by photographer JR in Paris, where he transformed the facade of the Palais Garnier into a monumental trompe-l'oeil depiction of a cave.
