On Ira

A touching and gently comic road movie about eighty-year-old Marie, who takes her son and granddaughter on a trip to Switzerland. What they don’t know is that Marie intends it to be her final destination – in every sense.

Please note that this film is in French, with Dutch subtitles.
Premiere

Marie has been battling terminal cancer, but has now decided to end her life on her own terms. She embarks on a journey accompanied by her somewhat dysfunctional family and Rudy, a kind-hearted caregiver she’s just met. Unable to reveal her true intentions, Marie creates a story about an inheritance in Switzerland to convince her unreliable and distracted son Bruno, granddaughter Anna, and Rudy, to take a road trip in their old camper van. But will Marie find the courage to reveal the true purpose of their journey as they approach Switzerland, and how might her family respond to the devastating truth?

For Baroux, the loss of her grandmother was the inspiration for this film. Despite the heavy subject matter, Baroux offers depth as well as humour. She explores themes such as family ties, the right to a dignified end of life and the power of honesty, offering a fresh perspective on life and death.

Enya Baroux, France, 2025, 97 min. French spoken, Dutch subtitles. With Hélène Vincent, Pierre Lottin, Juliette Gasquet, David Ayala, Henock Cortes.
