The Balconettes – English subtitled

Satire, drama, and horror are blended in this film by actress Noémie Merlant. A scorching hot summer evening in Marseille takes a gory turn when three young women are invited for a drink by a handsome neighbour.

As a heat wave brings a Marseille neighbourhood to the boil, best friends and roommates Ruby, Élise and Nicole gleefully meddle in the lives of their neighbours from their balcony. Until a late night drink turns into a bloody affair.

Written in collaboration with Céline Sciamma (Portrait De La Jeune Fille En Feu), Noémie Merlant’s gloriously gory and funny film is a whimsical investigation of the hidden mechanisms of the male gaze, and a prime example of feminist horror comedy. Sometimes gory, sometimes playful, but always vengeful.

The screening on Saturday 21 June at 20:30 is an interactive preview. You can find more information about this on the event page.
