The power station was built in traditional style on behalf of N.V. Sphinx. It is located on the Bassin, at the point where the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal flows into the harbour basin. The building was originally detached, but is now enclosed on the north and west sides by later additions. In 1967, the windows on the first floor of the south façade were blinded and the windows on the second floor were replaced. Two windows were fitted with hinged grilles.

The architectural style, aesthetic qualities, use of materials and ornamentation are of great value. The centre is of great significance as an essential part of the valuable buildings around the Bassin, and because of its location, it is important for the urban environment and has a historical-spatial relationship with the former inner harbour. The building has remained reasonably intact and, as such, contributes to the structural and visual integrity of the environment. Furthermore, the warehouse is rare in terms of typology and function.
