In collaboration with the research group Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development (GTD) at Maastricht University, Lumière Maastricht presents the documentary Future Council, in which Damon Gameau takes eight children on the ultimate school trip: a journey through Europe to meet powerful leaders and search for answers to our greatest environmental challenges. The research group will introduce the film and host a panel discussion afterwards (in English).

For over ten years, GTD has been dedicated to deepening understanding of the global interconnectedness of social issues within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This autumn, GTD and Lumière are jointly presenting a film series focused on three key themes from GTD’s research: poverty & inequality, activism & solidarity, and migration & diversity. Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion, and visitors will also receive a complimentary drink.

Millions of children around the world are frustrated by the dire lack of action to protect the planet and their future. Until now, their only avenue to express these concerns has been protesting on the streets.

Director Damon Gameau takes eight children on an epic adventure across Europe in a school bus powered by biofuel. Their mission is to better understand the planet’s predicament, explore solutions and, most importantly, take the conversation from the streets into the boardrooms of some of the world’s largest polluters and most influential companies.

Their bold, hopeful journey leads to the creation of a Future Council: young changemakers working with big business to shape a better world.
