Exposition: Authentics by Charlotte Voncken
In the foyer of Lumière, we offer a platform to young creatives and local talent to showcase their work. This August, we are pleased to welcome Charlotte Voncken (b. 1981) with her exhibition Authentics.
Throughout the month of August, Lumière Maastricht presents Authentics, an exhibition by Charlotte Voncken. Her works emerge spontaneously – pure and unrestrained – driven by a deep longing for unity.
Charlotte shares: "My work is inspired by the feminine principle. Through my nude drawings of the female body, I aim to reveal and honour its innate strength and timeless beauty. To me, feminism is about reconnecting with our source and restoring our bond with Mother Earth. This stands in contrast to contemporary Western feminism, which I believe often denies and distorts the feminine principle. In that sense, I see a parallel with earlier religions, which were often focused on suppressing feminine creative power. My work offers a counterbalance to the objectification and distortion of the feminine in our culture.
The divide between men and women has long occupied my thoughts, driven by a deep longing to heal that rift. Even as a child, I drew female nudes in search of truth—because I sensed something was wrong in this increasingly hidden patriarchy that alienates both women and men from their true power.
The exhibition Authentics presents works that emerged spontaneously—pure and unfiltered, just like when I was a child—born from a deep desire for unity."
