Put Your Soul On Your Hand And Walk - English subtitled
A poignant documentary about daily life in the Gaza Strip, told through the work of photojournalist Fatma Hassona, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike shortly before the world premiere of this film in Cannes.
When Iranian film director Sepideh Farsi tries to travel to the Gaza Strip in April 2024, she is denied entry at the border. Her plan to document life under Israeli siege seems to fall apart. However, she then comes into contact with Fatma ‘Fatem’ Hassona, a young, talented photojournalist from Gaza City. She becomes her eyes in the devastated area.
Through video calls, the two women discuss the young photographer's life: her admirable vitality, her hopes, her fears and her sadness. From Fatma's home, a rare human perspective on an inhuman existence unfolds. At the same time, she continues to report on the bombings and destruction. The women stay in touch for more than 200 days, until Fatma and her family are killed in an Israeli air strike – one day after the film's selection for the Cannes Film Festival was announced.
