Fiore Mio
Bestselling author Paolo Cognetti (The Eight Mountains) directed this documentary in which he treks through the mighty Italian mountain massif of Monte Rosa with his dog Laki.
Climate change is leaving its mark worldwide. So too in the Italian Alps. One of the region’s permanent residents is writer and documentary filmmaker Paolo Cognetti. Daily, he observes how the mountains, glaciers, and natural life in this region are changing. When a major drought dried up the water source in his hometown Estoul in 2022, he decided to record the changing reality in the Italian Alps.
Together with his dog Laki, Cognetti treks to his favourite mountain range: Monte Rosa, located between Piedmont, the Aosta Valley and Switzerland. They meet the people who have made this mountain range their home and reflect on the question of what the future holds. The question seems to be not how we can save the mountains, but how the mountains could save us.
Cognetti wrote and directed Fiore Mio (Flower Of Mine) and joined forces with Ruben Impens, the cinematographer who was also involved in The Eight Mountains. (rs)
