Chamber drama starring Renate Reinsve (THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD) as a mother who has to answer at school for a sexual incident involving her six-year-old son. Winner of the Caméra d'Or (prize for best debut) at Cannes. This film is Norwegian, with English subtitles.

Waarom Wettelen
Dimitri Verhulst, België, 2024
Black comedy in which a motley crew sets off on foot to bury Christine – in accordance with her final will – in the totally unknown village of Wettelen. Directorial debut by Belgian writer Dimitri Verhulst (THE MISFORTUNATES). This film is in Flemish, with Dutch subtitles.

Des Teufels Bad
Veronika Franz, Austria, 2024
Chilling psychological drama about a newly married, depressed young woman in religious 18th-century Austria. The director duo took inspiration from folk horror films about witch-hunts from the 1970s. This film is in German, with English subtitles (added soon).

Rich Peppiat, Ireland, 2024
Bloody funny film about an anarchic Northern Irish hip hop trio who rap in their mother tongue. Trainspotting meets School of Rock in a rebellious film in which the band members play themselves. This film is in English & Gaelic, with English subtitles (added soon).

Soundtrack to a Coup d'État
Johan Grimonprez, Belgium, France & Netherlands, 2024
Acclaimed documentary by video artist Johan Grimonprez on how the Belgian and American governments tried to maintain power in Congo in 1961, and on the CIA’s use of jazz music as a propaganda tool. This film is in English, French, Dutch and Russion, with English subtitles (added soon).

Historical drama about France’s history of slavery. Two enslaved people unleash a hellish manhunt on Île de France (present-day Mauritius) when they escape from the sugar cane plantation where they were held. This film is in French & Wolof, with English subtitles (added soon).

Feminist Italian costume drama in which five musically talented orphan girls, very much against the wishes of the chapel master, work on their own composition in preparation for a visit by Pope Pius VII. This film is in Italian, with English subtitles (added soon).

Dahomey
Mati Diop, France, Senegal & Benin, 2024
Intellectually stimulating documentary about the return of looted African art treasures from France to the Republic of Benin. Is compensation for the wounds of the colonial past at all possible? Winner of the Golden Bear in Berlin. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion on the themes of the film (language: English). This film is in French and English, with English subtitles (added soon).

Wim Wenders, Germany, France, UK & US, 1984
This classic by Wim Wenders, with a beautiful score by Ry Cooder, tells the dramatic story of a man who lost everything and tries to repair the damage. Prior to the screening of this film, programmer Wouter Greven will give an introduction linking the film to its European roots. This film and the introduction are in English.
