More and more people are finding their way to Lumière Maastricht. The arthouse cinema, located in the Sphinx Quarter since 2016, welcomed no fewer than 176,000 visitors in 2025 – the highest number ever. This means that the previous record from 2024, when 173,000 visits were recorded, has been broken once again.

How can we ensure that Limburg’s culture continues to flourish in the future? On Tuesday evening, the launch of My Cultural Legacy took place at the Maaspoort. This special initiative, created by 25 cultural institutions in Limburg, informs residents about the possibilities of supporting culture through donations and legacies.

The sixth edition of the Lumière Open Air Film Festival was a huge success. Over twelve summer evenings, more than 5,000 visitors gathered on Richie Backfire Square to enjoy a wide-ranging film programme – making this the most successful, and sunniest, edition yet.

Yesterday, our director Aerd de Boode signed the Green Cinemas 2025 covenant on behalf of Lumière Maastricht. With this, we’re embarking—alongside colleagues from across the country—on a multi-year journey to make cinemas more sustainable.
