About Lumière
About Lumiere

At Lumière Maastricht, you experience film at its very best. From the latest arthouse films and impressive documentaries to acclaimed Oscar winners, film classics, and special children’s films: with more than 300 films per year, there is always something to discover for all ages.
But Lumière is more than just a cinema. It is a place where people come together to experience films, meet creators, and discover new stories. We organize festivals, premieres, children’s activities, and special events, often in collaboration with cultural and social partners. Through our education program, Lumière Lab, we introduce children, young people, and students to the power of film and visual culture, while inspiring a new generation of viewers and creators.
Beyond the screening rooms, Lumière is also a place to meet and connect. In our Grand Café, you can enjoy a quick bite before or after a film, a good glass of wine, or drinks into the late hours. On sunny days, our waterside terrace is one of the most beautiful spots in the city to enjoy the view and the lively atmosphere of the Sphinxkwartier. This same open atmosphere makes Lumière a popular venue for a wide range of cultural initiatives, presentations, gatherings, premieres, and private screenings.
Since September 2016, Lumière has been located in a beautiful historic building in Maastricht’s Sphinx Quarter. This former power station, dating from 1910, still breathes the atmosphere of its past. Many original materials and ornaments have been preserved in the Grand Café, allowing the building’s history to remain tangible.
Lumière Cinema is a proud member of the Netherlands Association of Film Theatres (NFO) and the Netherlands Association of Cinemas and Film Theatres (NVBF).
