The sixth edition of the Lumière Open Air Film Festival was a huge success. Over twelve summer evenings, more than 5,000 visitors gathered on Richie Backfire Square to enjoy a wide-ranging film programme – making this the most successful, and sunniest, edition yet.

Organised annually by Lumière Maastricht, the festival offered a blend of timeless classics and exciting new premieres. Screenings included Drive, Pride & Prejudice and Do The Right Thing, alongside premieres such as La Venue De L’Avenir and John & Yoko: One To One. The festival opened with the legendary concert film Stop Making Sense, an evening that drew more than 600 visitors. As in previous years, the programme also featured shorts by Limburg filmmakers. New this year was an expanded line-up of food trucks, adding even more to the festival atmosphere.

With over 98% of tickets sold, visitor numbers were more than 1,800 higher than last year – a record-breaking result. The festival has firmly established itself as a summer highlight in Maastricht’s cultural calendar, while also attracting many tourists to Richie Backfire Square.

Lumière Maastricht warmly thanks all visitors, volunteers, neighbours and partners for their enthusiasm and support, and looks forward to welcoming everyone again at the next Lumière Open Air Film Festival, from 7 to 18 August 2026.
