Last night, the fifth edition of the Lumière Open Air Film Festival concluded in style with an outdoor screening of the musical classic Singin' in the Rain. With over 3,500 visitors, it was the most successful edition to date. All screenings were completely sold out, some even weeks in advance. In five years, the festival has become a staple on the Limburg summer calendar, attracting a diverse audience. Twenty percent of the visitors were under 25 years old.

The film festival under the stars is organized annually by Lumière Cinema and takes place at Richie Backfireplein in Maastricht. For twelve evenings, film lovers can enjoy a diverse program featuring classics and recent highlights from the Cannes Film Festival. Highlights this year included a visit from actress Johanna ter Steege at the screening of her debut Spoorloos, Brassed Off with live music from Brass Band Limburg (marking 50 years since the closure of the Limburg coal mines), and a special 'vogue' night centered around the film Paris is Burning, in collaboration with Eindhoven Ballroom and Bonnefanten Maastricht. Only the screening of Her had to be canceled due to the threat of a thunderstorm.

The next edition of the film festival will take place from August 8 to 19, 2025.
