Lux Audience Award: Watch, Rate & Win!

Each year, five films are nominated for the LUX Audience Award. It is up to the audience to decide the winner. By taking part in this campaign, you become part of the largest film jury in Europe by watching and rating the five nominated films – and you even stand a chance to win great prizes

Ten lucky winners will have the chance to attend the LUX Award Ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels on 29 April 2025 and meet the directors of the LUX films. Additionally, 120 winners will receive a set of film posters or tote bags.

This year, the following five remarkable films have been nominated, each with a unique story and a strong social message.

Flow by Gints Zilbalodis (Latvia, France, Belgium)
Enchantingly beautiful animation film about a stubborn black cat that has to share a small boat with a group of other animals after a terrible flood. This turns out to be an even bigger challenge than surviving the flood itself. Winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Animal by Sofia Exarchou (Greece, Austria, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria)
Sofia Exarchou reflects on the downside of mass tourism in this social realist drama about a group of entertainment workers at an all-inclusive resort in Greece.

Intellectually stimulating documentary about the return of looted African art treasures from France to the Republic of Benin. Is compensation for the wounds of the colonial past at all possible? Winner of the Golden Bear in Berlin.

Intercepted by Oksana Karpovych (Canada, France, Ukraine)
Ukrainian intelligence services have intercepted thousands of phone calls made by Russian soldiers from the battlefield in Ukraine to their families and friends in Russia. These conversations paint a harrowing picture of the brutality of war, creating an emotionally intense experience.

The LUX European Audience Film Award is presented annually by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in collaboration with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. This award celebrates European cinema and aims to engage the European public with important social issues. By doing so, it supports the European film industry and promotes cultural diversity.
