Sherman’s March + Introduction Wouter Greven

Before Ross McElwee’s groundbreaking documentary, our Head of Programming will introduce the film by exploring the significance of McElwee’s body of work for the medium of documentary.

Sherman’s March + Introduction Wouter Greven

Lumière’s Head of Programming Wouter Greven recently discovered the work of cult director Ross McElwee through his latest documentary Remake (2026). He started working his way back through his idiosyncratic oeuvre, of which his epic dramedy Sherman’s March (1986) is the centerpiece. In an introduction, Greven, who by then will have seen most of McElwee’s work, will guide you through his fascination of the director, his importance for the medium of documentary and the way his quest for love relates to modern notions of romance. In other words: why does Sherman’s March feel so modern?
