Lumière x IVN: De Wilde Stad

With De Wilde Stad, Lumière and IVN turn their attention to nature found right in the heart of urban life. Featuring an introduction by the Maastricht Natural History Museum.

Common swift (Apus apus) arrives at nest with food for young. Each time they carry in their throat pouch between 300 and 500 insects. Man made nest in bell tower of church. Amsterdam, The Netherlands

De Wilde Stad shows how animals and plants adapt to urban environments and invites us to look at the surroundings we often pass by without a second thought every day with fresh eyes.

Prior to the film, Becky Desjardins, curator of biology at the Maastricht Natural History Museum, will give an introduction. Drawing on her experience in natural history museums and her fascination with birds, plants, and urban nature, she will take the audience on a journey into the city’s hidden biodiversity and the importance of careful observation.

After the film, IVN is organizing a city walk through Maastricht, during which participants will search together for the unexpected urban life that is also present in our own surroundings. Advance registration for the walk is required via the IVN website.
