Film & Talk: Blame
How do conspiracy theories emerge? Before the documentary about three scientists during the COVID-19 crisis, Professor Kai Jonas discusses the role of the media and politics in the spread of disinformation.
In collaboration with Studium Generale Maastricht, we are screening Blame, a timely documentary about the struggle for truth and trust in science. The film follows three scientists who spent years researching viruses and pandemics, but who, during and after the COVID-19 crisis, found themselves caught up in a world of conspiracy theories, disinformation and growing distrust.
Before the film, social psychologist Professor Kai Jonas will give an introduction. Drawing on his research into the psychological impact of the pandemic, he will explore why people do or do not trust science, how conspiracy theories emerge, and the role that the media and politics play in the spread of disinformation.
