Lumière celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year. We’re marking the occasion this summer with a wide range of films that are celebrating milestones of their own. From Black Girl (1966), the sixty-year-old debut feature of one of Africa’s greatest filmmakers, to Legally Blonde (2001), the classic fish-out-of-water comedy with a sharp and heartfelt message about self-confidence. And there’s more: Mulholland Drive, Amélie, and Spirited Away are celebrating their 25th anniversaries, while Scorsese’s The Departed turns twenty.
It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only Lumière, but also film history itself, with a selection of anniversary cult classics that deserve to shine once again on the big screen.
