50 Years of Lumière | Movie Night

On 10 September 1976, the first Movie Night took place: the night in which Lumière, at the time Filmhuis Maastricht, was born. Fifty years later, we’re celebrating with an extra late movie night, filled with special films and advance screenings.

50 Years of Lumière | Movie Night

On 14 October 1976, Lumière was officially founded. But the story began a month earlier. On 10 September that year, the very first Film Night took place: a trial night during which Lumière, then still known as Stichting Filmhuis Maastricht, opened its doors for the very first time.

“We’re putting on a programme to see whether there’s enough interest,” Ed Gillekens told De Limburger at the time. Fortunately, there was plenty of interest.

Fifty years later, we’re going back to that very first Film Night, with an extra-late film round featuring special screenings, previews and titles that have a connection to the programme from back then.
