Spotlight on: volunteer Liny
Today, on Volunteers’ Day, we’re putting one of our most dedicated team members in the spotlight.
For forty years now, Liny has been an indispensable volunteer at Lumière. She started out at the children’s film house and spent many years working the box office on the Bogaardenstraat—where, in the pre-digital days, she sometimes had to sprint from the till to the auditorium to check whether she’d accidentally sold too many tickets for a screening. These days she’s our regular Sunday evening usher. If you come to the cinema on a Sunday night, Liny’s the one who scans your ticket.
What makes her story so lovely? Liny wasn’t actually a big film fan when she first set foot in Lumière. But over time her love of cinema grew, and now—whenever she can—you’ll find her watching a film in one of our auditoriums almost every week. Over the past four decades she’s seen Lumière through three different locations, always bringing the same warm, welcoming presence. Her favourite thing about volunteering is working with the other volunteers and, of course, meeting our visitors—especially the familiar Sunday-evening faces.
Liny is one of a hundred volunteers who support Lumière in all sorts of roles, from usher to projectionist. Without them, Lumière simply wouldn’t exist. So from the bottom of our hearts: thank you to everyone who gives their time so generously to our beloved film palace. ❤️
