Youri + Q&A with Joes Brauers
A film adaptation of Jan Brokken’s autobiographical novel In The House Of The Poet, about the friendship between the writer and the concert pianist Youri Egorov, who fled the Soviet Union.
Amsterdam, the 1980s. When journalist Jan Brokken interviews the world-famous concert pianist Youri Egorov, who has fled the Soviet Union, an unexpected, close friendship develops between the two very different men. While the flamboyant and gay Egorov embraces his freedom, he helps the introverted Brokken find the courage to pursue his dream: to become a writer.
In Youri, Brokken is played by Joes Brauers (Hardcore Never Dies); the Georgian actor Levan Gelbakhiani (And Then We Danced) plays Egorov. The film offers a wonderful snapshot of the turbulent Amsterdam of the 1980s, but is above all an intimate portrait of the development of a deep and meaningful friendship between two men who are polar opposites in almost every respect.
