Whisper Of The Heart

Fourteen-year-old bookworm Shizuku loves to lose herself in fairy tales and novels: school, family and boys hold no interest for her. That changes when she discovers that virtually all the books she has borrowed from the school library have already been read by a certain Seiji Amasawa. Strangely enough, not a single teacher knows who he is. One day, Shizuku spots a cat on the train, which gets off at the same station as her. This marks the start of a story about unrequited love, literature and creative ambition, brimming with Studio Ghibli magic.

In 1995, Whisper Of The Heart was the first Ghibli feature film not to be directed by Isao Takahata or Hayao Miyazaki (who did, however, write the screenplay). Sadly, it was to remain the only feature film by director Yoshifumi Kondō, who died three years later at the age of 47 from an aneurysm.
