Musical comedy starring Anna Karina as a Parisian nightclub dancer who one day decides she wants to become pregnant within 24 hours. The most accessible film in Godard's oeuvre.

Une Femme Est Une Femme (65th Anniversary)

With Une Femme Est Une Femme, compulsively innovative director Jean-Luc Godard presented a neorealist musical, seemingly a contradiction in terms. Featuring French superstars Anna Karina, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean-Claude Brialy, this is a sly, playful tribute to the American musical, in which Godard’s signature humour and intellectual acumen are given ample space. The film tells the story of dancer Angéla trying to have a child with her reluctant lover Émile. With a dazzling mix of colour, humour and music by renowned composer Michel Legrand, Une Femme Est Une Femme shows the young Godard at his warmest and most accessible.
