The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, Interstellar) takes on a film adaptation of Homer’s classic epic about the Greek hero Odysseus and his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War.

After the war, Odysseus, king of the Greek island of Ithaca, wants to return home as quickly as possible to take his beloved Penelope back into his arms. But Zeus, the supreme god, is furious with him. Odysseus’s army has been guilty of dishonouring the gods and deserves punishment. On his return journey, Odysseus faces enormous storms, shipwreck, giants, a Cyclops, Sirens with their deadly seductive song, captivity and a six-headed monster. Meanwhile, Penelope must fend off the suitors who wish to seize the throne of the king, whom they believe to be dead.
Homer’s greatest epic of all time has been adapted for the screen by several directors, including Francis Ford Coppola and the Coen brothers. Following the success of Oppenheimer, Nolan has once again opted for an ambitious project centred on human resilience, destiny and the quest for home. With Matt Damon as Odysseus and an impressive international cast, The Odyssey promises to be a compelling re-interpretation of Homer’s timeless epic.
