National Theatre Live 2026 – The Audience
A live recording of the play The Audience by the British National Theatre, starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. We see her during her weekly, private meetings with all twelve of her prime ministers.
For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II held a private weekly meeting with the British Prime Minister. These conversations were known as ‘The Audience’. From Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and David Cameron, the Queen advised her Prime Ministers on both public and personal matters. Through these conversations, we gain an insight into the Queen behind the scenes.
This hit stage play was filmed live in London in 2013 and is returning to the big screen after more than ten years. The successful Netflix series The Crown was based on this play.
