Fate brings student Camiel and Simon – a free spirit, hash dealer and womanizer – together. Their friendship deepens when Simon introduces Camiel to his hedonistic lifestyle, but after an incident, they lose touch. It is not until fourteen years later that they meet again. They pick up where they left off, but something has changed: Simon is terminally ill.

Simon is a funny and moving story about a colorful cast of unique characters. The standout performance, however, belongs to the recently deceased actor Cees Geel, who gives a truly memorable portrayal of Simon, a tough exterior hiding a heart of gold. He underwent a remarkable transformation for the film: during filming, he gained fifteen kilos, which he then lost again in just six weeks.

In 2004, the film won no fewer than four Golden Calves, the Dutch equivalent of the Oscars.

Please note that this film is in Dutch, without subtitles.
