Following the sudden death of their father, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood lose not only their home but also their social standing. In a world where financial independence for women is virtually non-existent and love is inextricably linked to money and class, they must find their way between sense and sensibility, between romantic longing and reason.
The work of the brilliant Jane Austen continues to hold an enormous appeal for filmmakers. Although Austen lived in a completely different era, she succeeded in laying bare such fundamental truths about human nature that her fiction remains as relevant as ever. And, of course, Austen is incredibly witty.
The director is Georgia Oakley. She made her feature film debut in 2022 with the highly acclaimed Blue Jean, a film about a lesbian gym teacher who anxiously hides her sexuality from her colleagues. Oakley promises us a fresh interpretation of Austen’s work, with the relationship between Elinor and Marianne at the emotional heart of the film.
